🌶️ Dhale Khorsani Pepper – Origin, Flavor, and Uses

The Dhale Khorsani, also known as Dalle Khursani or “round chili,” is a rare and fiery chili pepper native to the eastern regions of Nepal, particularly around the Dhankuta and Ilam districts. The name “Khorsani” simply means “chili” in Nepali, and this specific variety is prized for its bold heat, unique flavor, and culinary versatility.

🌱 Origin & Appearance

The Dhale Khorsani pepper grows in the high hills of Nepal, typically between 3,000 to 5,000 feet above sea level, where cool climates and rich soil give it a vibrant character. It’s a small, round, cherry-sized pepper with a brilliant red color when ripe, resembling a miniature tomato.

Here at Faith Haven Farms we are pleased to offer organically grown, non GMO, high quality Dhale Khorsani Peppers in bulk. Peppers are grown through a close partnership with our next door (the farm beside ours) Amish neighbors who plant, cultivate, and harvest these specialty peppers in their traditional, old fashioned methods. We then work with you on the sales order details, making sure we can meet your specific needs. And we work with our Amish neighbors on the fulfillment process to carefully package the order and ship directly to you.

🔥 Heat Profile

This chili packs a punch—often measuring 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), comparable to habaneros and Scotch bonnets. Despite the intense heat, it doesn’t overpower the palate; instead, it delivers a sharp, clean spice with a slightly fruity undertone.

🍽️ Culinary Uses

In Nepalese cuisine, Dhale Khorsani is used both fresh and fermented:

  • Sliced into achar (pickle-style condiments)
  • Crushed into hot sauces or spice pastes
  • Used to infuse oils and vinegars
  • Dried and ground for a potent chili powder

Its heat and flavor make it an exciting addition to soups, stir-fries, marinades, or anything that needs a spicy kick.

🌶️ Cultivation Notes

This chili thrives in cooler mountainous climates and requires full sunlight, moderate watering, and well-draining soil. It typically takes 75–90 days from transplanting to harvest.
